Biden Launches New Anti-Gun Effort

Joined by Vice President Kamala Harris, President Joe Biden on Friday unveiled yet another effort to please gun-ban groups ahead of next year’s critical presidential election. At a ceremony at the White House Rose Garden, Biden proudly announced the formation of the new White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. Biden has tabbed Harris as the head of the venture, and longtime Biden advisor Stefanie Feldman will serve as director.

“I'm proud to announce the creation of the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, the first office in our history," Biden said at the event. "While we push for Congress to do more, we're going to centralize, accelerate and intensify our work to save more lives more quickly. That's why this new White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, that's what it's designed to do." 

Biden later doubled down on the fact that the new office is basically an effort to make an end run around Congress, which has so far refused to approve most of Biden’s pet gun-ban schemes.

“Let me be very clear, if members of Congress refuse to act, then we'll need to elect new members of Congress that will act, Democrat or Republican,” he said. For her part, Harris seemed equally excited about the new venture, promising to never stop in what is actually her unending quest to infringe upon Americans’ Second Amendment rights.

“The new Office of Gun Violence Prevention will play a critical role in implementing President Biden’s and my efforts to reduce violence to the fullest extent under the law, while also engaging and encouraging Congressional leaders, state and local leaders, and advocates to come together to build upon the meaningful progress that we have made to save lives,” she said.

As expected, representatives of various gun-ban groups were pleased with the announcement. Giffords Executive Director Peter Ambler said in a statement: "This has been a top priority of ours for years, and it would provide an important center of gravity for leadership across the administration as the president and vice president implement the historic Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and continue to push Congress to pass legislation to save lives."

Of course, the biggest problem with the new Office of Gun Violence Prevention—aside from the fact that the last thing we need is one more bureaucracy targeting lawful gun owners—is that it is built around a fallacy that gun-ban advocates somehow can’t wrap their heads around. That fallacy is that guns are somehow the problem, not the criminals who use them for unlawful purposes. Not once in the president’s or vice president’s remarks on Friday did either mention violent criminals—the true cause of the violent crime wave sweeping America under the Biden Administration. The continued focus on an inanimate object that is neither good nor bad emboldens violent criminals to continue their evil ways since no blame is ever cast upon them by prominent Democrats.

Whether this continued emphasis on “gun violence” instead of “criminal violence” is a product of simple ignorance or blatant ill intent is anyone’s guess. I believe it’s just another part of Biden’s plan to further tear legal gun ownership by constantly focusing on lawful gun owners and ignoring criminals, who represent an important part of his voting base.
