Durbin's 'Gun Control Priority' Shows Democrat Danger To 2nd Amendment

When perennially anti-gun Sen. Dick Durbin declared in a tweet to make gun control a “top priority” now that he chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, it was an unmistakable signal that Capitol Hill Democrats represent a danger to the Second Amendment.

Yesterday, Durbin, from Illinois, said in his Twitter message, “Today I had the chance to speak with a group of gun violence prevention advocates from across the country. I told them that reducing gun violence will be a top priority of the Senate Judiciary Committee. And I will never stop fighting for gun safety.”

“Joe Biden has been in office less than two weeks,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “and he is presiding over an effort by his party to literally crush rights guaranteed and protected by the Bill of Rights. Dick Durbin would not be making such a promise if he wasn’t certain the White House was giving him free rein to erode the Second Amendment into something we won’t recognize.

“Durbin’s hostility toward the Second Amendment is well known in the gun rights community,” he added. “He has a history of supporting extremist gun control legislation, so his threat to make gun control a priority must be taken seriously.

“It’s because of Durbin and other like-minded anti-gun Democrats that a major effort called ‘Gun Rights Outreach to Defeat Gun Control Overreach’ is attracting remarkable support,” Gottlieb noted.

“Democrats led by Durbin have been salivating over the damage they might do to the Second Amendment since the November election,” he warned. “They have made no secret of their intentions, and now Dick Durbin has essentially confirmed the threat to our right to keep and bear arms is genuine.

“All this means is that Durbin and his fellow Democrats are pulling out all the stops,” Gottlieb said. “After years of waiting, they believe this is the right moment to destroy the right to keep and bear arms in the guise of ‘gun safety,’ so a right belonging to all citizens becomes a privilege enjoyed by a few. Durbin’s priority is to enact Draconian gun control laws. Our priority as citizens must be to stop him.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (www.ccrkba.org) is one of the nation's premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States.
