Normally, the author would never combine a six pack and ammunition, but the new CanMunition from Global Ordnance has nothing to do with alcoholic beverages.

Global Ordnance is an arms importer and exporter who primarily deals with overseas and military contracts. But a few years ago, they began venturing into the US civilian firearms and ammunition market.
Though primarily a reseller, at SHOT Show 2019 the company unveiled its first new product designed exclusively for civilian gun owners: CanMunition.
As the name suggests, CanMunition is literally ammo in a can. In fact, it’s oxygen-purged cans filled with inert nitrogen to increase the already impressive shelf life of modern ammo. The cans themselves are your standard 12-oz soda cans, and as such fit in any standard drink holder.
Intrigued, Firearm News set up an interview with the company’s director of commercial sales, Kevin Phillips to get a better understanding of the impetus behind the new product.

Kevin stated, “[CanMunition] is ideal for preppers, campers and outdoorsman who want an airtight way to transport extra rounds for their handgun or rifle.”
CanMunition cans are identical in size to standard 12oz beverage cans, and can be easily stashed in hundreds of different locations. He continued, “Surprisingly, the cost of canning the rounds is very cost effective, so we [Global Ordnance] can offer consumers competitively priced ammo that’s also great for long-term storage.”
The author had a chance to handle a few of the cans at SHOT Show 2019, and found that the their similar size to smoke grenades allows them to conveniently fit in grenade pouches. Allowing shooters to store one in a pouch attached to a bug out bag without having to worry about the rounds falling out.

He also noticed that their internal pressure makes them fairly robust, and resistant to crushing. Making them a great protective container for rough use and transport. But how well these cans hold up in field testing is yet to be determined.
Thankfully, Global Ordnance has agreed to provide a few sample cans for the author to test, and the results of which will be in a future Firearm News article.
Lastly, for the time being, CanMunition is limited to two calibers: 9mm parabellum, and .223/5.56mm - the two most prolific centerfire rounds in the US.
Both of these are available for sale now, over at https://globalordnance.com/ .
