The new Henry Side Gate still features the telltale hardened brass receivers of previous models.

Last week at NRAAM, NJ-based arms maker, Henry Rifles, unveiled their latest addition to their product lineup: a lever-action rifle with a side loading gate. This may seem insignificant to shooters accustomed to rifles from Winchester and Marlin, but Henry has historically always employed a front loading tube.
While effective, reloading from this tube is much slower than a side gate, and requires the shooter to reach past the muzzle. An operation that is totally safe if the gun’s action is open and the weapon unloaded, but potentially unnerving for some shooters.
In response, Henry finally released a new rifle that features a side-loading gate and the original front loading mechanism. Allowing shooters familiar or comfortable with either method to reload the rifle however they want.
Despite including a side loading gate, the new rifle also retains the original front-loader, giving shooters plenty of options for reloading their rifles. The first models of the Henry Side Gate will be offered in .30-30, 38-55 and 35 Rem. Additionally, the gun will feature the iconic hardened brass receiver the Golden Boy series is famous for. Also, the first models to arrive will feature a 20-in round-profile barrels, with a dark blued finish.

According to the press release, all the aforementioned models will retail for $1,045, but street prices are likely to be a bit lower.
