"Just Trust the Police:" Here's Why You Can't

Ask an anti-gunner his plan for personal security and his answer is likely to be "just count on the police." That's optional in this country, thank God, but it's codified in Britain, where what we would regard as legitimate self-defense can get you imprisoned.

The fallacy of that thinking is illustrated by a growing scandal in the British city of Rotherham, where a gang of mostly Pakistani men abused more than 1,400 British girls over a span of 16 years. Where were the police? Either ignoring the crimes or actively colluding with the perpetrators.

As the New York Times put it:

"Lucy's account of her experience is emblematic of what investigators say happened during a 16-year reign of terror and impunity in this poor northern English town of 257,000, where at least 1,400 children, some as young as 11, were groomed for sexual exploitation while the authorities looked the other way. One girl told investigators that gang rape was part of growing up in her neighborhood."

"Between 1997 and 2013, despite numerous reports of sexual abuse, only one case, involving three teenage girls, was prosecuted, and five men were sent to jail, according to an official report into the sexual exploitation of children in Rotherham published last week."

We might hope that an investigation would reveal whether police inactivity was the result of corruption of fear of upsetting the multicultural apple cart or both. The track record of British police investigating themselves, however, does not inspire confidence. Check how they handled the Hungerford and Dunblane shooting incidents: potential evidence of police malfeasance was placed under seal for decades.

Individual policemen may be trustworthy. Your local police department may be trustworthy in general. But trusting your entire personal security to any institution made up of human beings is folly. Mandating that the majority must put its security entirely in the hands of a tiny corps of public employees is tyranny.

Those girls in England were taught to trust the police. But the police were corrupt or cowed by racial politics, and utterly failed them.

Ultimately, your personal security is your own job. Be prepared for it.
