"One of the best products we’ve had the joy to use for better sound reduction on our rimfires is SilencerCo’s Switchback 22 multicaliber suppressor,” said Patrick Sweeney, Firearms News NFA Editor and contributor for Rimfire magazine. Check out the recently released 2020 Rimfire magazine to see what else Patrick had to say about the Switchback.
Inspired by technology used in rocket and jet propulsion, when oriented in one direction the front section exhibits the most competitive sound reduction on the market for pistols, but when the orientation is flipped the result is unprecedented sound reduction on rifles. On average, it reduces .22-caliber rimfire cartridges (and smaller calibers) down to 108 decibels (dB) for rifles and 114 dB for pistols using standard velocity loads. When shooting a semiautomatic, the sound of the bolt slamming home as the action cycles or the projectile striking a steel target is louder than the actual round being fired. Think quiet ranges where you can shoot all day and hear nothing louder than the sound of the steel ringing after impact. That, our friends, is the beauty of sound suppression.
