If you are a gun owner and not a fan of 1981’s “Escape From New York” then you need your head examined! Propstore auction services is offering the “stunt” (called a rubber gun in the movie industry) MAC-10 submachine gun used by Snake Plissken (played by actor Kurt Russell) in this iconic action sci-fi film. “Stunt” or rubber guns are used as stand-ins when a gun does not need to fire. Typically, these replicas are airbrushed to look real, and at even four feet away it’s sometimes hard to tell if it’s a real gun or fake. Also, by having a “stunt” gun in the hands of an actor, the theatrical armorer does not need to be on set if some non-shooting scenes are being filmed. These props are also used when a gun has to fall and hit the ground thereby not damaging a real gun. I always ordered “rubber gun” models of many of the guns I used on a movie when I was a theatrical armorer.
From website: “This lot will be auctioned on Tuesday, June 21st. The auction will begin at 8:00 a.m. PDT and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on Wednesday, June 22nd; Thursday, June 23rd; or Friday, June 24th.
Snake Plissken's stunt MAC-10 from John Carpenter's sci-fi action film “Escape from New York.” The United States Police Force issued Snake (Kurt Russell) a MAC-10 on his mission to rescue the President (Donald Pleasance), which became his signature weapon throughout the film until he and the gun were captured by The Duke of New York (Isaac Hayes).
This stunt submachine gun is believed to be the only remaining MAC-10 from the film. It is constructed from polyfoam cast around an internal metal armature and hand-painted black and silver-color to appear metallic.”

This MAC-10 features the famous Sionics two-stage suppressor (fake of course), and it was handled by not only Kurt Russel but most likely by Isaac Hayes. No doubt producer/director John Carpenter picked it up a few times as well. So, if you are a huge fan and have at least $10,000 to bid, check out the auction here .
