Duplicitous Bedfellows: Trump Administration and Anti-Gun Organizations

How Brady, Giffords, and Everytown have joined President Trump and Pam Bondi in attacking the Second Amendment.

President Trump and his Bondi-led Department of Justice (DOJ) are pairing with some bizarre bedfellows these days after running and winning on a conservative platform that promised to restore and defend the Second Amendment rights of all Americans. I’m referring to the amicus brief recently filed by Brady, Giffords, and Everytown in support of the DOJ’s defense of the National Firearms Act, an illegal firearm registration scheme devised by the government in 1934 and defended by a corrupt United States Supreme Court in 1937’s Sonzinsky v. United States.

For an in-depth background on how the NFA was used to tax law-abiding citizens out of their Constitutional rights, how the Trump administration threw the Second Amendment community under the bus in the One Big Beautiful Bill, and how the President and the DOJ are now defending this position against every campaign promise made to Americans, check your Firearms News magazine back issues for the following titles:

With Republicans like these, who needs Democrats to destroy the Second Amendment?

One Big Beautiful Update, Part 1

Trump and Bondi reveal the truth about their anti-Second Amendment agenda.

“When the DOJ said it would work with a coalition of gun groups, we did not think they meant Brady, Giffords, and Everytown,” the National Association for Gun Rights wrote on X.

Very few conservatives doubted President Trump’s claims when he made them, but Firearms News magazine has been keeping score since 2016. All indications since that time, from bump stocks to red flags, tell us resoundingly that President Trump is very much in touch with his Democrat Party roots. Perhaps the timing is right for anti-gun organizations like Brady, Giffords, and Everytown to come home to papa.

More and more, however, the public is seeing past the grift. Attorney General Pamela Bondi’s December 5th post on X, stating, “The 2nd Amendment is not a second-class right,” and announcing a new unit within the DOJ’s Civil Rights Department that will “advance President Trump’s pro-2nd Amendment agenda and protect the right to bear arms for all,” has been met with a bit of public fact-checking.

“Bondi is still defending the NFA in court, and has taken dozens of anti [S]econd [A]mendment positions, and appointed or directed various attorneys to take these positions in various cases this year,” reads the X community note attached to Bondi’s post, adding context, or as I like to call it, a splash of reality to the conversation. And for more on “best people” Pam Bondi:

Bottom Line: Republicans Didn’t Question Bondi on Her Anti-Gun Positions

Despite Bondi's Support for Gun Control, Republicans Drop the Ball on the 2A While Democrats Pledge to Defend Infringements

I’ve always understood, but found disagreeable, the statement that if one sleeps with dogs, they wake up with fleas. It’s not that it isn’t necessarily true if you happen to bed down with unkept fur missiles; however, I find the comparison offensive because I’ve never known a politician whose loyalty, honor, dignity, and sense of duty exceeded that of a canine. Aside from my penchant for our four-legged friends, the point is abundantly clear. When the Bolsheviks at anti-American organizations like this start filing briefs to support your agenda, it is not a look that agrees with someone claiming conservative values, and when Brady, Giffords, and Everytown are involved, you’re sure to catch something unwanted.
